MedConf is a conference organized by heise conferences that focuses on software and device development in medical technology. In addition to its usual May date, an fall edition will be held for the first time this year. The conference will focus on requirements engineering and artificial intelligence in medical technology, as well as standards and guidelines, and software and device development. The conference is aimed at professionals in development, quality management, product development, and regulatory affairs.

Cybersecurity requires rapid updates, while the product lifecycle of medical devices demands stability over 10 to 15 years. Drawing on the real-world experience of an embedded systems supplier, this presentation will show how to quickly determine the scope of vulnerability impacts, why maintaining an up-to-date SBOM involves significant effort, and what happens when kernel support and components reach end-of-life before the device itself. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, the presentation will share practical insights: what works and what still requires manual intervention.
