OT (operational technology) refers to the use of hardware and software to control industrial equipment. OT includes specialized systems used, for example, in manufacturing, energy, medicine, construction, and other industries.

The increasing regulation of security is also increasingly affecting manufacturers of networked products, for example through NIS2, the Machinery Directive, the Medical Devices Directive, the Radio Equipment Directive and above all the EU Cyber Resilience Act. Security is thus becoming a market access criterion and liability issue.

It is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers to deal with security requirements and to inform themselves in good time. Only in this way can products be developed securely and survive on the market.
